A couple of guys were really open to hear about God as well, and we gave out some copies of Mark’s gospel to those who were interested. I even got chatting to two Greek guys who turned out to be pimps!
We have for some time considered whether we should join forces with Doreen Cooke and sell both our homes to buy one property or two next door to each other.
It’s estimated that 1 in 5 of these women are victims of human trafficking, and 90% have been made psychologically dependent on their ‘boyfriend’/’loverboy’ who has made them believe that this is what they are worth. But when Claire has seen them and looked at their faces, she feels so strongly that they have such amazing potential and dignity and are precious people loved by God.
We both feel a deep sense of pain as we begin this journey, as we know that we will yet again come literally face to face with women and girls who are being exploited and used, often under the guise of tourist entertainment. And yet our sense of hope in Jesus is greater; ‘the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it’ (John 1v5).
We have now returned from a very relaxing and refreshing holiday in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria, Spain. The weather was excellent (20+) except for a few days of rain and one storm.
On Wednesday 12th January we shall be flying from Gatwick to Las Palmas Gran Canaria for a three week holiday. Frances is taking her laptop so that she can review and reorganise her photos and do quite a bit reading. Terry plans also to do some reading. This year he has planned to read through the ESV study bible having really enjoyed the NIV study bible that he began in 2009. This is our first holiday for some years and will be taken up with a lot of walking and relaxing. Our itinerant programme starts on the 6th February with a visit to Clifton Community Church. All our other visiting plans will be found on our itinerary page on www.terryandfran.info. . Thank you for your continuing prayer and practical support. Much love Terry & FranPlease for Mike & Jane. Jane has been quite unwell with flu and a chest infection. Mike also had to go into hospital with a problem with his heart which did correct itself but never the less may re-occur. Please pray for their well being and quick recovery.
2010 has been a very interesting and challenging year for us both. We are always learning new things in many of the situations we find ourselves involved in and thank God for His guidance and help. We have seen Him open opportunities for us in both churches and on a personal level. We have had the joy of knowing His hand on our lives.
Hey y’all!
So, after a few months of silence I decided to update you all and let you know I am still alive! The first few months here have been intense, it’s been a major change moving half way across the world away from everything familiar, but God has been with me the whole time and I feel confident this is the best place for me at this point in my life. God has also has been doing a lot of changing in many of our lives too, completely transforming us and putting himself as number one in our lives.
We have lectures for three hours every morning Monday to Thursday, and chapel three mornings a week (on Thursday’s we have English composition instead as apparently missionaries have to be educated!) We have already finished the third module of the course – Kingdom Lifestyle, and start synoptic gospels tomorrow for three weeks. Fridays we don’t have lectures but have Power of the Cross class which covers deeper life issues, followed by cell group where we can discuss what was brought up in class and anything we may be struggling with. I work three afternoons a week from 12:30 until 6:30 in Bethany Press International, boxing books ready for transport as my practical training part of the course. We also do outreach once a week. I do SALT (Somali Adult Literacy Training) where we teach Somali refugees English. The woman I work with is called Fadumo, and has lived in the states for six years so is good with spoken and listening English, but needs a lot of help with reading and writing. We also have one-on-ones once a week with our mentor where we meet to talk about what God is doing in our life, and for them to challenge us and pray through anything we need them to.
I have visited a few churches and have decided that I am going to have Bethany Church as my home church, which is right next to the campus and linked to the college. Looking around at churches made me realise how special Eltham is, how welcoming and loving you all are (I’m not just saying this).
I hope this has given a little insight into what I am up to, and I would love to hear from you all!
At the prayer meeting last night some of us were praying together and some of our prayers were for young people or for family that have grown up and moved away not knowing God. It brought it to my heart the importance of investing time and energy into our children now while they are with us. I wonder how many of us who know the Lord can look back and see how the time and investment into our lives as children was of major importance to our accepting Christ. I know for me that is definate.
How much more should we be giving to our children, so we are not praying more in the future because they have not accepted Christ.
So far we still need a good number of people who will give up their time to spend with the kids teaching them about Jesus, please don’t wait for others to step in. You may feel that you have done this before and therefore are unable to do it again – alternatively it maybe that you are ideal for the job because of your experience. Please email back to me so I can start to get some kind of organised rota together for the next few months.
Thank you, John.
Dear All,
This is a reminder about the farewell gift we would like to do for Mike & Lydia. Could you please supply an A4 piece of paper with a photo and a message on to go into folder for them to take with them. Please can you give to me as soon as possible (by the 5th December) or call me to come and collect – please do not give it to me at church - this is a secret!
We would also like to give a gift of a digital photo frame, if you would like to give something towards that please can you let me know asap.
Thank you!
Janna
We have just joined in the celebration of the wedding of Sarah Churcher with Dylan Harthill at Raglan Road Christian Church in Birmingham.
Hi All,
Below is the current potential rota for working with the Junior Church ages. You can see the gaps below and I am looking for those of you who can fill them.
Each week we provide all the resources you need. Each session needs someone to lead it (and prepare the session from the resources) and a helper.
Parents – can you fill a gap so that all we need to find are leaders? or can you be a leader?
So far we can run 1 group once a fortnight and we need to run both groups every week.
Please consider this as an important aspect of church, we need to teach our children about Jesus and we can’t do that without your help (parent or not!).
Thank you
John

Cris Rogers
The first of our relaunched Restore events included a great talk by former pastor of Soul Survivor Harrow, Cris Rogers who spoke on the subject of “Restoration”.
Hi All,
Please can you pray for the following prayer requests from Adam Bull, Christine and Betty.
From Adam Bull in Cape Town
Please pray with me for a boy in the program called Precious.
He has been ill the whole time Ive been in SA with a deadly illness called TB. Now it is looking very much like he has demonic activity in his life, he is trying to fight it but the enemy seems to be winning at the moment!
His Father was a Sangoma (witch doctor) and died last year, when this happens all power and evil spirit is released to the son (Precious)
Precious said he would rather die then give into the enemy and now is not taking his medicine, this is could be because he wants to die or because the enemy wants him dead.
This young man is to be out of prison next year and God is no doubt going to use this man mightily and the enemy is not happy about that.
Some demons don’t come out easily, but only through prayer and fasting (Luke)
Please pray that Precious would be delivered from the enemy, if you feel to pray, then please keep praying with me until this has happened.
My email adam@adambull.net if you want updates or more info.
Street Pastors this Friday
Betty and Christine are going out in Woolwich again on Friday night with Street Pastors. Christine is also going out in Hackney with Teen Challenge again on Tuesday night (She goes out alternate Tuesdays) Please pray for them - particularly for boldness!
Thank you
John
This next weekend (10th October) sees the beginning of a 7 week programme of seminars we shall be leading at the Clifton Community Church in Worthing.
We returned back from Lanark in Scotland on Wednesday this week and were anticipating the arrival of John & Celia Valentine from Zimbabwe to spend 10 days with us here in Eltham.
This Friday (10th September) we fly from Stansted to Edinburgh to spend a weekend with the church at Lanark. They meet for conference every three months and invite all the various churches in the locality. The church meets just on the right of the church in the picture.
Saturday morning the men of these churches are attending and I have arranged for a discussion on the foundational truths we find in Hebrews 6 v 1-2 as an introduction to the Sunday meetings where I want to speak about our spiritual sensitivity. The writer to the Hebrews is concerned that the Hebrew Christians have lost their way in their relationship with God. Frances has a ladies meeting booked for Saturday afternoon and we both joining with the elders and their wives on Monday evening. We return on Wednesday. We would appreciate you prayer for these meetings. Much love Terry & Fran
